Chateau Grand Pey Lescours St Emilion Grand Cru 2014
If you are looking for consistent quality and value in Saint-Emilion, Grand-Pey-Lescours provides an excellent marker and punches well above its weight. The 25-hectare estate, located just outside the town of Saint-Emilion on clay-limestone soils is planted predominantly to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Always worth a look when hunting out Bordeaux bargains.
With 80% merlot in the blend, this is perhaps my favourite...not my favourite wine based purely on the quality.....but when you factor in the price, this is a great buy. I drank (yes not tasted it must be said) this wine with a friend. How outrageous! We simply enjoyed it. Ripe, soft, not overly complex and not a wine that will last too long - 2-3 years for its best. This is definitely one for Christmas day, and does not really need time to prepare itself either. Whilst I must admit no food was had with this, it would be good with turkey....not over powering.
