Maiano is certified organic and is a family owned historic property in Chianti. The estate is the classic Tuscan postcard: 55 hectares of gentle rolling hills of vine (the so called colline dolci), interspersed with Cypress trees and olive groves, and an agroturismo that serves up local food and provides lodging (and a pool ; ).

Run by the Nigi family, the estate's founder, Gianfranco Nigi, helped pioneer organic farming in the region back in 1984, and established Tenuta Maiano in 2000. Located west of Chianti Classico, the soils in Montespertoli are based more on clay and limestone as opposed to the galestro pebble-topped clay soils which characterize the Classico region. The more calcareous soils of Montespertoli yield wines that are ready for immediate enjoyment: fresh, lively and perfectly balanced. These are the wines you find in all the trattorias of Florence — the wines that you wish you could find back here in the UK....and now you can!

One of the purest and most vibrant expressions of the grape we have tasted. Aromas of fresh cherry, strawberry, balsamico and herbs explode from the glass in the most inviting manner. On the palate, it has a lively acidity with vibrant tannins that perfectly frame the wonderful concentration of fruit flavours. The wine is medium-bodied with a rustic charm, yet is  incredibly easy to drink — you can even enjoy it slightly chilled. Recommended for pasta with tomatoes or meat sauces, grilled and stewed meats.
