"The famous Albariño of Rias Baixas made in northern Portugal by Australian David Baverstock for a Hong Kong businessman. Complicated enough for you? Attractively clean and fresh – with so much more ripe fruit than in the Vinho Verde of old. Good stuff.”

Howard Bilton is a businessman from Yorkshire now living in Hong Kong, an enthusiastic wine lover and admirer of Portugal’s wines especially from Alentejo region.
In 2002 he joined forces with leading winemaker David Baverstock, an Australian living in Portugal to create wines that reflects the best that the country has to offer.
Located to the east of Lisbon and covering a full third of Portugal’s continental territory the Alentejo emerged over the last 20 years, as the leader of Portugal’s renaissance as a premium wine producing country.
The Winemaker – David Baverstock
David hails from South Australia and is a graduate of Roseworthy. He came to Portugal in the mid 1970’s to pursue an interest in fortified wines and worked in the Douro for several years. He was invited to move to the Alentejo and develop an ambitious new project in what was then an under represented and little appreciated region. Since those early days David has been at the forefront of the development of the Region’s wines and has had a large influence in the development of the Alentejo style – modern wines using the latest agricultural and industrial techniques combined with a respect for local varieties, customs and traditions. He has won the Portuguese Red Wine Trophy at both the 1999 and 2002 International Wine Challenge, as well as Winemaker of the year (Portugal) 1999, the first non Portuguese winemaker to do so.
