A poised, sweet and astonishingly sophisticated dessert whisky .
Our Opinion Light yet rich in style, with an attractive, creamy texture and charming sweetness to balance its considerable strength.
Tasting Notes "Palate: Warming at cask strength. Rich and nutty yet also dusty. Then, in turn: toffee, caramel, tangy fresh fruits; biscuit, short pastry, fig rolls. With water the mouth-feel is more soft and creamy and the taste is sweet throughout, suggesting hints of plum pudding and brandy sauce. Finish: Short. Dark, earthy chocolate and hints of tropical fruit. Later oak-dry on the palate. With water, some sweet cider-apple tartness and even more seductive, creamy oak. "

Method of Production One of Scotland’s newest distilleries, established in 1974 at Mulben, in Banffshire, a mile from the River Spey where it leaves the valley behind to start its final run to the sea. The name means “Ford of the Red Stream” in Gaelic. A burn flowing from Dorie’s Well provides plentiful water for distilling. There have been two previous distillery releases. A 12 year old ‘Flora and Fauna’ distillery only bottling was available from the early 1990s. Light, sweet and fresh, it had a pleasant mouth-feel and a surprisingly dry finish for a Speyside malt. A 28 year old cask-strength 1974 was released as a Rare Malt in 2003. Soft, liquorice toffee nose, smooth soft body, sweet with some acidity on the palate, warming, long finish.
