Our Opinion This is a cult wine in France, sold at auction, put into blind tastings with Meursault. The most rigorous terroir selection, the strictest selection of plots, irreproachable vinification methods and the truly impressive commitment of the wine growers, have made the “Grands Chardonnays de Limoux” one of the most prestigious Appellation d’Origine Controllée white wines in the world. “Toques et Clochers” is an auction of the most promising casks to benefit the restoration of the church bell towers in the villages within the appellation. These bell towers symbolize a unique terroir selection covering 3,800 plots organized within 4 terroirs and 40 bell tower villages.

Tasting Notes Melted butter, nuts, caramel and toast. There is also a deliciously lemony twist in the finish. Yet another wine where the accent is on terroir and minimal intervention. It is unfiltered and unfined so expect a small deposit at the bottom of the bottle. Think Burgundy, particularly Meursault and cut the price by 60%.

Method of Production Location: Limoux (nearest town Carcassonne). This particular wine is from the Terroir of Autan one of four discrete terroirs, or local styles. Grape: Chardonnay Climate: Autan zone is sheltered from the winds and is dry and warm. The wines from this zone are always generous and ample Soil: Mixture of limestone, molasse and alluvial soils. The co-op pioneered soil analysis and terroir based selection in the region Oak: Vinified and aged in new French oak Tasting note: Melted butter, nuts, caramel and toast.
