A ton of great value gooseberry fruit from this ultra-crisp Wairarapa Sauvignon.
Our Opinion Whilst still typically Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc, this is not from Marlborough, but from Wairarapa on the North Island instead, and thus swaps some of the richer passionfruit flavours for crisper capsicum and grass nuances. 86% of the fruit for this wine is sourced from the northern Opaki sub-region, and a portion of the blend was barrel fermented - this all adds depth and interest, producing a stunning value New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Tasting Notes The nose is aromatic and pungent with a combination of gooseberry and capsicum aromas that follow onto the palate. Crisp and mouth-wateringly refreshing, it has a tangy dry finish.
Wine Maker
Method of Production The focus in the winery is to capture the pure fruit flavours that come from the vineyard whilst adding complexity through the winemaking process to provide a multi-dimensional wine. This was achieved by tank fermenting 90% of the blend and barrel fermenting the remaining 10% in older oak, using a wide variety of yeasts. The barrel-fermented portion is lees stirred for two months before the blend is assembled in tank.
