Our Opinion Tupari is about the vineyard. The unique combination of climate and soils that determine the essence of the wine itself are what makes Tupari special. The upper Awatere Valley has the “one of a kind” geography that grows grapes with distinctive characteristics.

Tasting Notes The 2008 Tupari Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted citrus blossom and fresh peachnotes on the nose. The creamy palate has rich mineral/citrus flavours and the wine is underpinned by a crisp acidity.

Method of Production The 2008 Sauvignon blanc vintage was harvested at 2.7Te/acre. Low bud numbers, shoot thinning and open canopy are developed to ensure a healthy full canopy to support the fruit. Diverse plant and insect life are encouraged to achieve a balanced, healthy flora and fauna within the vineyard. Abundant insect life and many flowering plants grow inter-row. Such practices suppress pests naturally, and allow production of wine with minimal interference. Glenns philosophy is to produce sophisticated wine to accompany food, not over power it. Following harvest in the cool of the night, the wine was carefully fermented in 100% stainless steel. The process was brought to a halt with a few grams of sugar remaining to match the crisp acidity. A wine of understated elegance with intensity of flavour and fine palate structure results. The most important refinement is the extended lees contact. This results in a later release date than most Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; however, the result is creaminess on the palate and a wine that will retain its freshness well beyond the first year.
