| Languedoc-Roussillon Languedoc-Roussillon,, with its mediterranean climate, has a third again as much vineyard area as Australia, yet produces just 10% of France's AC wines. It is Frence's best value wine growing region, and is the biggest in ternms of volume. It's AC regions include, Fitou, Corbieres, Minervios, St. Chinian and Coteaux de Languedoc. Together, they turn out a huge range of wine styles from dry whites, rosés and reds to sparkling, (Blanquette de Limoux and Cremant de Limoux), fortified and dessert wines. The main grape varieties for its fantastic red blends are: Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvedre. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are also planted. White varieties include: Clairette, Maccabéo, Chardonnay, Picpoul, Terret, Viognier, Roussane and Marsanne. The region is home to some deliciously juicy still whites such as Picpoul de Pinet and Corbières Blanc. These are fantastic aperitif wines and also a great match for poultry, fish and seafood. The fullbodied reds from this region are a fabulous match for game, big red meat dishes and of course, Cheese. |
