Syrah/Shiraz

Syrah is the classic Rhóne red grape, responsible, in the Northern Rhóne for Cótes Rotie, Crozes Hermitage, Cornas  and St Joseph. Here, it is full of summer fruits, smoke, and is rich, big and succulent.  In the Southern Rhóne, it is mostly used in a blend with other grapes.  It comes into its own as a varietal wine in Australia, where it is creamier, and has aromas and flavours of blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, chocolate, with hints of leather and spice.  It is very deep and dark in colour and it ages well.
