Stanton & Killeen Topaque (Muscadelle) 375ml
Pale tawny in colour with a noticeably rich texture, the aroma is rounded and not unlike a richer amontillado sherry. On the palate the flavours are of light caramel with hints of florality. The natural fragrance of the Muscadelle grape is muted by the oak ageing (the wine goes through a solera system of ageing) although the influence of the oak is not immediately obvious. It's a full-textured wine (17.5%) which would benefit from being lightly chilled to match desserts featuring nuts, especially almonds e.g. Bakewell Tart or even plum pudding.

Climatic conditions and long experience (Stanton & Killeen was founded in 1875) combine to produce some world-famous wines which are distinctive and deserve to be better known.
