Lovely looking red with dark cherry red with plum hues. On the bouquet there wafts of chocolate and dark cherries, with a hint of spice. On the palate.....more chocolate and dark cherries, with a hint of spice. Dark cherries with licorice and chocolate, underlying earthy tones, held together with silky tannins.The fruit for the Hedonist Tempranillo is estate grown on biodynamically run vineyards situated in the Willunga foothills, McLaren Vale. The idyllic St Vincent’s Gulf lies 10km to the West. The soil is rich loam over clay with patches of underlying limestone, giving the wine a rich and fullness of pallet.Great with sausage and white bean cassoulet with chorizo and smoked paprika.

Walter Clappis has been making wine in McLaren Vale for well over 30 years, and over that time has won innumerable trophies and gold medals, including the prestigious George Mackey Memorial Trophy with his 2009 The Hedonist Shiraz, chosen as the best wine exported from Australia for the year in question. He now has daughter Kimberley and son-in- law James Cooter, both with impressive CVs, supporting him on the winery floor. The estate plantings of shiraz (14ha), cabernet sauvignon (10ha), merlot (9ha) and tempranillo (2ha) are the cornerstone of his business.
The Hedonist wines adopt a minimalistic approach to winemaking, believing that great wines are made in the vineyard. Exceptional care is taken in the estate grown, certified biodynamic vineyard.
The Winemaking Team
A dynamic trio – the winemaking team consists of Walter Clappis, a veteran winemaker of 36 vintages, daughter, Kimberly and her partner James Cooter. Walter’s experience and wisdom plus the energy and enthusiasm of the new generation, has created the perfect balance in the winery. All the wines reflect a purity which is consistent with the Winemakers and their philosophies.
