Established in 1998 by David & Tanya Freschi, Casa Freschi is a small, quality obsessed vigneron who own and operate two vineyards in Langhorne Creek and in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. After working in various winemaking roles during the 1990’s, including in New Zealand, Italy and California, it was the lure of a special small 2.5 hectare vineyard in Langhorne Creek planted in 1972 to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Malbec by David’s parents that enticed David to pursue his life-long dream of establishing his own artisan wine brand. All wines are grown using organic principles, miniscule yields, hand harvesting, natural fermentations, little or no new oak, no fining or filtration (except light filtration for the white wines) and minimal sulphur dioxide at bottling. Casa Freschi’s philosophy is to capture the energy and personality of each site by growing the highest quality fruit possible and allowing the natural vinification processes to create wines that rely solely on the quality of the grape.
2015 was a very successful year. Slightly above average yields were ripened with ease during the warmer and drier than average growing season. The fruit ripened with beautiful balance of flavour, sugar and acidity, and it was the earliest harvest to date commencing on 16 February. Of note was the extra level of concentrated flavour and minerality in the wines, perhaps due to the combination of warm, dry conditions that prevailed, and extra year of vine age.
