Gunderloch was founded by Carl Gunderloch in 1890 on the banks of the Rhine in the Rheinhessen wine region of Germany.  The soil is red slate and is the sediment that was formed by the geological cataclysms that created the Alps.  The fifth generation Hasselbach family, who have run Gunderloch since 1979, have sought to harness the characteristics of this terroir to create unique wines, achieving the perfect balance of aromatics, fruity acidity and minerality.   Johannes Hasselbach is now the sixth generation at Gunderloch and is carrying on the family's focus on crafting beautiful Rieslings with low yields and minimal intervention, while reserving 10% of his best grapes to experiment
