Add To Your WishlistDomaine Bertrand Ambroise Bourgogne ‘Aries’ Pinot Noir 2010

Deep violet/purple in colour with pale crimson at the edge of the rim, the wine clearly has some maturity now, although it is not showing signs of extreme age since the core is still intense. On the nose the dominant note is red fruits so typical of Pinot Noir with hints of mushrooms and earthiness again so typical of Pinot grown in Burgundy. The palate backs these impressions up, with restrained fruitiness balanced by overtones of oak ageing with soft tannins evident on the finish.

Named after Bertrand’s star sign and made from selected Pinot Noir grapes grown on a range of family vineyards in the Cote de Nuits villages and the Cote de Beaune including tiny parcels in famous villages such as Beaune, Pommard & Volnay and Marsannay, the wines have been aged separately in 500 litre oak barrels for 15 months before blending together and undergoing further ageing in barrel and then in bottle. The wine is something of an unusual example of a Burgundy at this level and is only made in the best vintages but is no less successful for that. Note: the wine is bottled under screw cap to avoid any trace of oxidation and so is perfect for serving now, preferably having been decanted beforehand.
