Add To Your WishlistKarl H.Johner Kaiserstuhl Pinot Noir 2019
Karl-Heinz was the winemaker at Lamberhurst vineyard for a decade before returning to his native Baden to start his own vineyard. It’s now his son Patrick who trained at Dijon in Burgundy who makes the wines and indeed Burgundian they are in inspiration. Benefitting from the famous volcanic soil of the Kaiserstuhl, in the far SW corner of Germany and sheltered from the rain and wind by the Vosges mountains, they are able to produce top quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir which are complex and classy, in the vein of serious village Burgundy. Other wines produced are Rivaner (the local name for Muller-Thurgau) and Pinot Gris, made in the style of neighbouring Alsace. These are classic wines with a modern concern for quality & consistency, so are bottled mostly under screw-cap. Just open, decant and let the wines start to breathe!
