Felix and Anne-Sophie Debavelaere own the small Domaine des Rois Mages = Domaine of the Three Kings in Rully, one of the best known of the wine producing villages in the Cote Chalonnaise district in southern Burgundy. As in the case of the nearby villages Givry and Mercurey, the domaine produces quality whites from the Chardonnay grape and quality reds from Pinot Noir. The Pinot grows on the soils rich in clay whereas the Chardonnay grape prefers a well-drained limestone based soil.

In all the family own 8 different climats = vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise and the Cote de Beaune. Their philosophy is to work the soil in a sustainable way, respecting the traditions of the region. As far as ageing is concerned, they aim to combine the fruit flavours with a delicate oak influence from ageing in cask for 12 months before another 6 months settling in tank.

Classy white wine from a small domaine, this wine has typical characteristics of white Burgundy: lean, yet with a restrained fruitiness, showing ripe green apple and some citrus flavours on the palate, with a noticeable minerality, followed by a smooth finish where the subtle, vanillin notes from oak-ageing can be detected. Ready for drinking at once, this wine from the successful 2018 vintage can be enjoyed now or will gain in complexity from further ageing.
