Beautifully judged use of oak in the glass is a big part of the wine-making art, the citrus, stone fruit, hint of hazelnut and the precise, zinging acidity on the palate is enveloped in a delicate warming blanket of fine French oak. Hugging the vibrant flavours and aromas and carefully melding them together whilst not dominating in any way. The elegance of this white Burgundy is certainly a nod to the style of Puligny-Montrachet; purity of fruit and very careful winemaking have once again produced a beautiful white wine which has many years ahead of it.

Gérard Thomas has been quietly running his estate situated in the quaint, tucked away, Côte de Beaune village of Saint-Aubin since 1982. These days his two daughters, Anne-Sophie and Isabelle, who have been working with him for a number of years, represent the fourth generation of the family to be running the estate. Their vineyard holdings extend to around 12 hectares in the Côte de Beaune appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin itself. While they do make a very small amount of red wine in this part of the world, Chardonnay is king and it's their whites on which their reputation is based. Not being based in the nearby prestigious communes of Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet might mean that they go a little bit under the radar compared to some other producers. However, without any doubt, they are the equal of many of their better known peers and, for sure, their wines with the Saint-Aubin appellation are extremely good value for money from this part of Burgundy.

Murgers des Dents de Chien is one of the four greatest vineyards in St Aubin...ample and rich, dominated with citrus character with a superb minerality on the finish, the texture is seductive yet with a pithy character. Long and simply delicious, this is a must-have.

Gérard Thomas's 'Murgers des Dents de Chien' - which translates to 'walls of dogs teeth' referring to the jagged white rocks which form the borders around Burgundian vineyards – an absolute delight!
